Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)

MLD is a very light skin manipulation that improves the function of the lymphatic system throughoutMLD-bios-massage-therapy the body. In the 1930s the techniques of MLD were first introduced by Dr. Emil Vodder, PhD, MT from Denmark.

MLD is very effective treatment for managing and lowering blood pressure as well as increase low blood pressure levels.

Lymphatic drainage is often recognized as a vascular compression therapy and as natural shooting and stress free way to aid in the elimination of metabolic wastes and stimulate the immune system.
The lymphatic system is an important part of the circulatory system. It aids the body’s absorption of nutrients and help to remove waste from the tissue. The lymph collects the body’s waste and then deposits it in the lymph nodes as it passes though. The lymph nodes also assist the spleen and the bones in producing new white blood cells.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage & Detox

MLD for detox massage is performed on healthy individuals to enhance their health and support the removal of toxins from their bodies. This technique helps to move fluids through the body by stimulating the Lymphatic System. The Lymphatic System is the body’s natural filtering and cleansing system that works in parallel with the venous portion of the circulatory system. When these systems work in unison, fluid retentions is minimise and blood “cleansing” is optimized.

MLD is beneficial for many health conditions such detoxification from Lyme’s Disease and can support the removal of residual medications such as steroid (Prednisone), various antibiotics, antidepressant and other form the after the course of treatment has concluded. It’s also very effective on the Weight Loss Treatments.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage for Post Surgical Care

MLD is becoming widely recognized in the U.K. as a treatment for many pathologies including post surgical swelling, post traumatic edema (e.g., sports injuries), migraine headaches, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia.

MLD for Post Surgical Care is performed on healthy individuals to reduce the pain and the swelling that result for most types of surgery. For surgery including, but not limited to cataract removal, orthopedic surgery for shoulder repair, hip replacement, knee replacement and everything in between, a myriad of plastic surgery procedures such as liposuction, rhinoplasty, abdominoplasty, buttock and breast augmentation, recovery time and discomfort can be significantly reduced by MLD performed by a well trained therapist.

MLD helps the body to return to normal functioning more quickly by moving “extra” fluid through the body and helping to soften fibrotic or hardened tissue by stimulating the Lymphatic System. Sometime surgery interrupts or even damages normal vascular (arteries, veins, lymphatic vessels) structure which are responsible for moving fluids.

MLD assists the body in moving fluid in a normal pattern and also in finding alternative pathways. Initial appointments can require 30-90 minutes. Depending on complexity, subsequent appointments will most likely be shorter, but may be 30 – 90 minute as advised by the therapist.
