MLD for Post Surgical Care & VASER Liposuction
Most types of surgery, including body sculpting procedures, bring pain and swelling in their wake, as well as oedema (fluid retention) and scarring. The main benefits provided by a course of MLD can be a significant reduction in immediate post-operative discomfort and reduced recovery time.
MLD is recommended after all surgeries. Common examples are:
- liposuction
- breast augmentation
- rhinoplasty
- hip replacements
- orthopaedic surgery
- scaring and burns

Crucially for cosmetic procedures, it is important that swelling dissipates evenly to prevent any irregularity or hardness developing in the tissue. MLD helps the body to return to normal functioning more quickly by helping to soften fibrotic or hardened tissue.
Following any procedure there will be an amount of surplus fluid in your body that contained the anaesthetic, in addition to its natural swelling reaction. Invasive procedures can also interrupt or damage our vascular structure (arteries, veins and lymphatic vessels). Not only will MLD optimise the body’s natural removal of surplus fluids, it will also aid in repairing potential damage done to the system during surgery. It will also assist the body in finding alternative temporary lymphatic pathways until the system has been repaired.
MLD is recommended especially after surgery because:
- it quickly reduces oedema, swelling and bruising
- treatment can begin as soon as 24 hours post-surgery
- it inhibits local inflammation
- it acts to minimise scarring and build-up of hard tissue, ensuring better visible results
- overall healing time is accelerated
Please note, initial consultation for post-surgical MLD takes place at your first appointment, meaning you will need to allow for a full one hour. All subsequent appointments will be 45 minutes, and a course of sessions is recommended depending on the assessment of your individual needs, in order to allow the body to maximise the benefits of the treatment programme.
